“Nothing like getting pulled over by a state trooper at 3:45 a.m. on a Saturday, right in the station parking lot, because they claimed my license plate was peeling and unreadable… except it wasn’t.

Funny how the “peeling plate” concern felt a lot more like a fishing expedition to see if we’d been drinking. Sorry to disappoint, but we don’t drink and drive.

After interrupting our morning, checking the perfectly readable plate, and finding nothing wrong, we were sent on our way with a warning and a form to get a new plate. Glad we cleared up that dangerous case of “driving while sober.”

For context, my husband has a CDL and takes that responsibility seriously. We were on our way to pick up truck parts so he could get back on the road delivering the goods Americans rely on every day.

I’ll post a picture of the plate in question. Normally I wouldn’t, but since I’ll apparently be getting a new one anyway, there’s no harm in showing it.

I’m all for keeping the public safe. What I’m not a fan of is using questionable excuses to stop people in hopes of finding something else. We both have clean records, and the highway is for public use. Unless I’ve done something wrong, I don’t believe I should have to explain where I’m going, where I’ve been, or what I’m doing.

Judge the plate for yourself.”
