A business with deep roots in the community has thrown open its doors once again, and locals couldn’t be happier. Lisa Weimer and her husband, Bear, are the faces behind the newly reestablished venture, which had once operated under a land contract before circumstances led them to reclaim and revive it.
On this blustery fall day, inside, the Weimers bustle about, setting the stage for a candid conversation that reflects both the challenges and triumphs of local entrepreneurs.
Lisa Weimer and her husband are no strangers to hard decisions. “We had had this up on a land contract, and we ended up getting it back. So we had no choice. We had to do something. So we do what we know how to do,” Lisa recounts, smiling faintly. Their return, unexpected in some ways, was marked by action. “So we walked in the building, September 27th, and the 17th of November was when we opened.”
The reaction to their reopening has surpassed even the Weimers’ best expectations. When asked how it’s going, Lisa beams: “It’s very good. Yeah, very good. The first week’s been fabulous. The customers are wonderful. Our staff is great. If we didn’t have the group of friends that we have, like Joe from across the street–he walked in the same day we walked in–Bear and I’d still be standing in that kitchen, not knowing what to do, if he didn’t come in and just say ‘Lets get started, let’s start moving, right?’”
The secret to their smooth launch? Community spirit and word of mouth. “Yes, and it just spread, and everybody loves it, yes,” Lisa confirms, her gratitude apparent. The positive buzz, according to friends and neighbors, is evidence that the business has filled the gap that was needed in the community.
Lisa admits that she was nervous about returning, uncertain if they could meet the community’s high expectations. “I said that–being I was very nervous because, you know, we were here before, and I was nervous that we weren’t going to be what everybody remembered us…and so far, it has been nothing but great.” She laughs gently. “We’re a little bit older, we’re a little bit slower, but we’re still, yeah, we’re doing it.”
As the afternoon draws to a close, old friends and regulars alike mill about, some pausing to share kind words. “This looks like a great place,” marvels one guest, as laughter and the scent of comfort food fill the air.
With the community embracing them and their business thriving anew, Lisa and Bear Weimer’s return is a story of perseverance, resilience, and hope—a testament to what can happen when a small town rallies around its own.
