In-Person Programs:
Saturday, December 6, 2025 and Saturday, January 3, 2026 | Full Moon Hike or Snowshoe
7 PM – 8 PM @ Overnight Astronomy Observation Field, Kiosk by Restrooms
Take a moonlit evening stroll along crisp, wintery landscape. Join a park educator for a 1.5 mile walk along level ground. Snowshoes will be available as conditions and attendance allow. Learn about winter constellations and folklore along the way with a laser-guided tour of the night sky. Telescopes available if conditions are favorable. After the hike, sip on warm hot chocolate or tea by a fire in the historic CCC pavilion. No dogs, please.
Saturday, January 24, 2026 | Winter Adventure Hike or Cross Country Ski, Registration Needed for Ski Sizing
10 AM – 12 PM @ Night Sky Public Viewing Area, Kiosk by Restrooms
Hike Info: Route will be about 2 miles over flat terrain. No dogs, please.
See nature’s refreshing winter beauty on foot! In the event of a hike, be prepared with good hiking boots, hiking poles/sticks, and water. If conditions allow, there will be an opportunity to cross-country ski (equipment and instruction provided for free). Be prepared with water-resistant hiking boots, layers, hiking poles/sticks, and water.

Thursday, November 13, Thursday, December 11, and Thursday, January 8, 2026 | Planning Your Winter Stargazing Trip
6 PM – 7 PM, Online on Microsoft Teams.
Learn what you need to know before you visit Cherry Springs State Park this winter. This program will cover how to plan an evening stargazing, what parts of the park to visit, places to stay, and how to prepare for Potter County winter weather. This program is designed for first-time or novice stargazers, looking to visit the park from December to March.
Lyman Run:
Saturday, November 8, 2025 and Saturday, December 20, 2025 | Wildlife Watch
12 PM – 2 PM @ Top of Dam
As one of the few large lakes in Potter County, the lake at Lyman Run State Park serves as a valuable stop-over habitat for many different types of migrating waterbirds and as home for other wildlife. Stop by the top of the dam and scope the lake with a park naturalist looking for eagles, grebes, otter, and more.

10 AM – 12 PM @ Overflow Lot for Lower Campground, Lyman Run Trail
Hike Length: approx. 2 mi, gentle terrain
Join long-time park volunteers and staff on a walk through a winter wonderland. Hike along the Lower Lyman Run Trail, meandering through a hemlock bottomland, passing by beaver ponds and bubbling Lyman Run. Refreshing opportunity to get outside in the colder months to see the winter beauty of Lyman Run. Out and back.
Hike Info: This mostly-level hike will be around 2 miles, with a short hill at beginning and end. Hiking poles encouraged for stability. Leashed dogs welcome, keep in mind the path may be muddy.
Be prepared with water-resistant hiking boots, hiking poles/sticks, and water. A limited number of boot traction devices may be available to borrow if conditions require.
