COUDERSPORT — If you haven’t stepped inside The Untouchables Speakeasy at 109 North Main Street yet, you may want to put on your best 1920s attire and come see what all the excitement is about.

Owner Alyssa Hillman welcomed more than 30 people through the doors for the speakeasy’s grand opening last Saturday — a turnout that pleasantly surprised her for the establishment’s first night.

“I think it turned out really well,” Hillman said. “I was actually surprised for it being its first night and all.”

The crowd continued to grow as the evening went on, with guests sampling the speakeasy’s colorful selection of mocktails. One of the most popular was the Elliot Ness, made with cranberry juice, pineapple juice, club soda, lime juice, maraschino cherries and a lime wheel.

Hillman said she uses fresh ingredients rather than artificial mixes, and she’s already dreaming up seasonal creations, including fall-inspired apple and pumpkin mocktails.

The Untouchables is more than just a place to grab a drink. Hillman is working to create an experience — complete with flapper girls, games, themed nights and plenty of opportunities for people to simply have a good time.

Guests at the grand opening had plenty of positive things to say, with Hillman reporting that people told her they had a great time and would like to come back. Some visitors even traveled from outside the area to experience the new Coudersport attraction.

And the fun isn’t stopping after opening night.

Tonight is karaoke night! So come on down, grab a mocktail, grab a microphone and show Coudersport what you’ve got.

Friday brings Music Bingo, featuring clues about famous songs and characters. Hillman has even created a game where players earn points for identifying the artist and song — and can score a bonus point by singing the next line.

Saturday’s plans are still under wraps, because Hillman says she’s always coming up with new ideas.

“It’s just too much brain going on,” she joked.

And that’s exactly what makes The Untouchables so much fun: you never quite know what Alyssa will come up with next.

As for this reporter, I can personally say that working at The Untouchables means getting into character. Tonight, you’ll find me dressed as a 1920s flapper in a black-and-gold sequined dress covered in fringe, long black gloves, pearls, sparkling feather earrings and heels — while Alyssa herself brings her own glamorous touch to the room.

So come dressed up, come as you are, bring your friends, and come sing some karaoke with us tonight!
