COUDERSPORT, PA — The Coudersport Community Kitchen is introducing a new way for local families to enjoy the holiday season with its first-ever “Silent Night, Sparkling Lights: A Coudersport Light Tour.” Thirteen homes in and outside the borough have registered to take part in the event, decorating their outdoor spaces with festive lights and displays.
Maps for the self-guided tour are available at seven local businesses. Residents may vote for their favorite displays December 6–12 by scanning the QR code printed on each map.
Participants can cast votes in one of three categories:
• Most Dazzling Display – the most elaborate or eye-catching lights
• Winter Wonderland – the most creative or theme-driven design
• Children’s Choice – selected by young voters for the most magical, kid-favorite display
The light tour is part of the Community Kitchen’s efforts to build connection and lift spirits during a time of year that can be difficult for many families.
Founded in early 2024, the kitchen prepares a hot meal and offers essential household items to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. The program operates from September through May, serving an average of 130 meals monthly at the St. Eulalia Parish Center.
“This time of year can be incredibly hard for so many in our community,” said Kari Kurtz, Vice President of the Coudersport Community Kitchen. “We wanted to create an event that brings light—both literally and figuratively—into people’s lives. Our hope is that families can enjoy a little holiday magic while also remembering that no one in our community faces hardship alone.”
In addition to meals, the kitchen provides hygiene supplies, soap, toothpaste, and paper products—resources that become even more essential as winter increases demand.
The Community Kitchen credits its success to strong local partnerships and ongoing donations. Support comes from a range of community contributors, including UPMC, the Cole Foundation, Cream N’ Sugar, Shop N’ Save, First Seventh Day Baptist Church, Girl Scout Troop 46816, and many local residents.
Organizers say the light tour is a celebration not just of holiday cheer, but of the generosity and camaraderie that have sustained the Community Kitchen since its beginning.
