On a bright, sunny October 18, at CARP Park in Coudersport, Teacher’s Pet, a local dog rescue, sponsored a “Spooktacular Adoption Day,” with happy-looking dogs looking for their forever homes and vendors to boot.
“We’re trying to get as many puppy dogs adopted today as we can,” said Tammy Gepfer, who is a volunteer. Teacher’s Pet wasn’t adopting directly from the event, but rather taking applications for adoptions at the event.
Kris Arbogast, who founded Teacher’s Pet, said that Teacher’s Pet planned to do another event next Halloween as well. When asked what inspired the event, Gepfer pointed to “that young man a few yards away with a “very long beard,” as she described it, who turned out to be Jordan Leete. Leete is from California, according to Gepfer, and he had told her the different events that they would have there to get their companion animals adopted, and so they “got excited” and decided to try it at Teacher’s Pet.
Also at the event were some vendors, like Skye and Kerri Welch, who have, “Buttons and Baubles.” They also do taxidermy, but not, “Your traditional deer on a wall,” stuff, says Skye. What she does is the “bones and bugs and stuff,” she said. She can be reached at artifyskye.png.
Further down the line, a bearded Randy Chase was advertising for dog boarding/basic training/off-leash training for McKean and Potter Counties with his business, called “Chasing Excellence.” He says he is flexible with his training program, “depending on what people want.” He takes a balanced approach, with a “positive reinforcement,” program.
All in all, it seems as if this “Spooktacular Adoption Day,” was a hit with the vendors, the dogs, and the community.
